If you wish, you may save your application and return to it later – perhaps pasting in texts that you’ve written using another platform. Don’t forget that the deadline for applications is Wednesday 6 December.

It is important that your manager is aware you are applying to the Challenge, and approves the time you will need to dedicate to the project. Please show them the information for managers available on the site.

Please set out your idea here, in no more than 400 words. You may wish to highlight its potential to meet the judging criteria on the About page, and should provide some thoughts on:
- The problem your idea could address;
- The changes required to implement your idea;
- The key datasets and organizations whose participation would be required for implementation.
Please note that we do not expect you to have carried out research into your idea before submitting it; we will do some initial work to assess its viability and potential, generating a longlist of ideas to be taken forward by teams.
Development teams
Shortlisted ideas are much more likely to prove successful if the individual proposing the idea joins the development team. However, if you wish to submit an idea but are not able to join a development team, we will consider your idea and may take it forward or circulate it to relevant departments. We would also encourage you to volunteer to join a team even if your idea is not selected for development; we’ll find a role for you that both calls on your existing expertise and experience, and helps you to develop new skills and contacts.
